The forms in the Totem series are inspired by sculptural stone works of Mesoamerican civilization. My attempt is to capture a sense of the dimension and weight of the stone in drawings. Charcoal, is today one of the most common drawing materials in the world and was an important material in Mesoamerican culture. It was used to create works of art while being integrated in the production of weapons, as a hygienic material and in healing practices.
