Jabberwocky
Jabberwocky, 2024
23x 30 in
Acrylic, hair, sand, glue, on canvas
A series of self-portraits combining ideas of perception and representation relating to Lewis Carrol’s Jabberwocky. A formless dark entity, the Jabberwocky differs in meaning from person to person. The paintings are mostly abstract but hint at portrait-like humanistic human form. The dark and rich meaty palette, intentionally draws from the Dutch masters, holds clumps of the artist’s hair, creating a richly grotesque, textured surface.
