About

Jon Gomez is a Chicano multimedia artist and educator with a M.F.A. from New York’s School of Visual Arts.

Jon Gómez is an interdisciplinary artist exploring his Mexican and Native heritage through projects that frame immigration, identity, and nationalism in 21st century America. Gómez’s work takes on the task of forging his Mesoamerican ancestry and his present life in hopes of finding some resolve to an identity rich with knowledge but suppressed by colonialism. His current work incorporates tattoo influences, chicano aesthetics from the eighties and nineties, and Mesoamerican motifs. Gómez received an MFA in Fine Arts from The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and BFA in Film/Video from California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. He teaches drawing and painting nationally and internationally. Gómez was born in Los Angeles, has lived in Mazatlan, Mexico and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
