About
Jon Gomez is a Chicano multimedia artist and educator with a M.F.A. from New York’s School of Visual Arts.
Jon Gómez is an interdisciplinary artist, tattooer, and educator. He founded Macondo, a private tattoo studio in New York, providing space and guidance for emerging artists to develop their tattoo practice.
Gomez’s non-tattoo art practice explores his Mexican and Native heritage through projects that frame immigration, identity, and nationalism in 21st century America. His work takes on the task of forging his Mesoamerican ancestry and his present life in hopes of finding some resolve to an identity rich with knowledge but suppressed by colonialism. Gómez received an MFA in Fine Arts from The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and a BFA in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. Jon Gómez was born in Los Angeles, has lived in Mazatlan, Mexico and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
